abstract = "The opening of the BR-174 highway, linking Manaus (Amazonas) to
the state of Roraima, enabled the human occupation of distant
regions of the big rivers. On attracting people arises Community
Boa Uni{\~a}o on the banks of Balbina Reservoir. The aim of the
study was to assess the environmental conflicts in the basin Boa
Uni{\~a}o (12,288 ha), in relation to the drainage system and
slope with land use. The methodology consisted of field work,
preparation of maps and data analysis. The field work was carried
out to recognize the {\'a}rea (20 October 2015), raise data usage
of land and conflicts and apply qualitative questionnaire, along
with community residents. Hypsometric, slope and land use/cover
maps were elaborated by SPRING software, using Aster (three
dimensional) and Landsat 8 Oli (11 September 2015). The watershed
Boa Uni{\~a}o has a slope of 13.9 ± 9.9 % and 61.4 ± 16.8 m of
altitude, featuring a flat relief corrugated. Land use/cover
consisted in forests (58 %), agriculture (19 %), water (20 %) and
exposed soil (3 %). Agricultural class and exposed soil mainly
occupied flat areas of the watershed, while water class was
represented by Balbina Reservoir. Agriculture is also the cause of
environmental conflicts because not respect the banks of
watercourses (Permanent Preservation Areas). Additionally, the
islands were occupied by agriculture, expanding conflict.
Residents of the community recognize the importance of
environmental preservation, but depend on the conflicting areas,
the drought has suffered consequences such as difficult access to
crops and the shortage of fish.",
